Welcome to The Culture Thesis. Let's talk pop culture.

Today is International Podcast Day!

At least that's what Twitter told me. I took this as a sign that it would be the perfect day to start a series I've wanted to do called Podcasts That Be Poppin. The inner ratchet in me wanted to name it that, and I think I'm sticking with it. It's fun.

It's always strange to me when I try to talk to people about podcasts and I'm hit with dead silence. Or a look that says who listens to podcast. Or even stranger, "what's a podcast?" Podcasts are a part of my work week routine. I work a 9 to 5 in an office and have a lot of quiet time to myself. I use this time to listen to the many podcasts I'm subscribed to, and oh I mean many.

Podcasts are like radio shows without the music. And I can understand why people would assume that nobody listens to podcasts. Five years ago podcasts seemed to be a mainly white, older male thing, and they all seemed to be centered around news. I'm sure there were other audiences and topics, but from the first page of the iTunes podcast section that's what it seemed to be. Now there are podcasts done by people of all ages, races, sexualities and genders. There's a podcast for literally everything! Podcasts have literally had me in tears from laughter and sadness. Podcasts have taught me things. Podcasts have helped me follow my dreams.

So every Tuesday I will cover a podcast that I'm listening to or may have just discovered and let you know why you should be listening to it. I would love to hear about the ones you listen to or even connect on listening to the same podcasts! Podcast coverage will begin next week, but in the meantime here's my usual podcast schedule:

Monday: 2 Guys and A Girl

Tuesday: Another Round

Wednesday: The Friend Zone

Thursday: The Read, Brilliant Idiots

Friday: Angela Yee's Lip Service, Guys We F****d

There are tons and tons of others that I listen to everyday, but the ones above are my weekly MUSTS. I literally wake up in the morning looking forward to listening to them. Tell me in the comments what podcasts you listen to. Maybe it's a new one that I can check out for this series.
